What it does
- Built Gobble before college, learning Flutter and the BLoC pattern from scratch.
- Designed a turn-based game where players choose which tiles to gobble, aiming to eliminate the opponent’s color from the board.
- Combined chess-inspired movement and positioning with 2048-style tile merging, so winning depends on tactics rather than score alone.
- Implemented real-time multiplayer with Cloud Firestore: players create or join a six-digit room, subscribe to game-state updates, and synchronize moves and turns live.
Why I built it
Gobble started as a fun idea: combine the tactical decisions of chess with the satisfying merges of 2048. I built the entire game before college while teaching myself Flutter and BLoC from scratch.
How it plays
Gobble is a 1v1 game, not a score chase. Players move and gobble tiles across the board, and the goal is to eliminate the opponent’s color. Every move is a decision about positioning, timing, and which tile is worth taking.
Multiplayer
I used Cloud Firestore as the real-time game layer. A player creates a six-digit room code, a second player joins it, and both clients listen to the shared room state. Each move updates the board action and whose turn comes next.
What I learned
Gobble was my first full game project. It taught me Flutter, BLoC state management, and how to make a turn-based multiplayer game stay synchronized in real time.
